July 2025 News & Events

Your humble editor owes a mea culpa to you, our discerning readers. The reflection on eighteenth century Town Meetings included in last month’s news & events section was erroneously attributed to J.R. Lowell. Classically educated readers know that a nineteenth century poet could not have been the author of McFingal: a modern epic poem in four cantos. The correct author is John Trumbull. Kudos and thank you to Paul Glavey of Littleton for setting us straight.

Congratulations to Carlisle’s Town Administrator Ryan McLane on his election as the President of the Small Town Administrators of Massachusetts. We are certain that Ryan will be an asset to the organization in this position.

Congratulations as well to Donna Brewer and Tony Riley for their win before the Supreme Judicial Court. Donna and Tony were able to convince the SJC to reverse the decision of the Appeals Court and affirm that abutters to their client’s property had no standing to challenge the grant of a use variance. The decision is Stone v. Zoning Board of Appeals of Northborough.
